The Department of Romance Languages invites students, faculty and members of the 91Ě˝»¨ community to attend a talk in French by award-winning Haitian QuĂ©bĂ©cois writer, Marie-CĂ©lie Agnant, to take place on Thursday, March 21st at 1:00 pm in room G14, Edmund Casey Hall.

Marie-CĂ©lie Agnant will discuss her writing trajectory and provide insights into her novel, Le livre d’Emma (The Book of Emma), which explores the plight of Creole women within the trans-Atlantic slave trade. In her novel, the author probes the subject of intergenerational trauma and erasure, showing how transmission of painful legacies via women’s storytelling, dream interpretation and song transforms an obscure and haunting past into cathartic modes of representation.

This event, taking place during International Francophonie Week / La semaine internationale de la francophonie 2019, is sponsored by the Department of Romance Languages at St. 91Ě˝»¨ and the Canada Council for the Arts.
